Il tempo che vivi è più forte di te

“The times you live are stronger than you” is a multichannel film freely inspired by the ancient fable “Morality of the blind and the crippled”.
Originally written by Aesop, it was then reworked in the 16th century by the French poet André de la Vigne in a more authentically political version, in turn taken up and staged by the Italian author Dario Fo in “Mistero Buffo”. The interpretation that I present here does not transcend the principles of the aforementioned versions but rather expands their narrative and dramaturgical action, projecting it into the contemporary historical and political scenario, among its ghosts, in its dystopias. Thus, the allegorical expedient of the parable becomes, in the journey of the two actors (Walter and Sergio, in their first performative experience), an active metaphor for that impossible dialogue that I try to reactivate, with my projects, between the “bodies” of the society: between Power and Community, essentially – and therefore between Truth and Justice, History and Memory, individual and collective. And it is precisely the body the conceptual emblem and dramatic medium of this conflict: with Walter and Sergio we have performed the hypothesis of a resistant body which, in a slow journey from the ruins of the urban margins, wanders towards the indifference of the centres, between the ghosts of the history’s disappeared bodies: an army of voices that in the dreamy ritual of the markets, a place of distracted memories, seem to reappear (trapped?) in the life of objects, in the complicity and absence of gazes. The installation bodies act in the same way. Screens are always a deception, and therefore also a possibility: they are doors, thresholds, mirrors. Vertical, human bodies, from which the collected cry of the multitude is thrown: a body freed – at least – by the prophetic violence of poetry.
